Set in a hand-made bright zinc plate frame, a creased sheet of patinaed, treated mild steel evokes a breaking wave on the Suffolk coast. The colours are caused by oxidation in the top layer of the steel, which was recovered from scrapped factory machinery. These colours are enhanced with the use of industrial solvent, mechanical etching and selective polishing. The mixture of reflective and matte surfaces means the piece changes with the light. Bold, industrial and optimistic, this series would be suitable for corporate reception or boardrooms. The wider pieces would work well in prestige corridors, and in places where changing natural light can highlight the shifting qualities of the work.
